Clogged pipes and heat coils
« on: November 03, 2008, 04:14:24 PM »
Hello, I'm looking for some help with one of our heating systems. The coils and pipes are being restricted and clogged by a film building up in them. We use a propylene glycol and water mix for the heat medium. I am looking for a cleaner to remove this film inside our system. We have used a sodium hypocrite but it does not remove the film very well. Please help with other solutions and componds.

I would try just acetone. Go to your local paint supply store and ask for a big thing of acetone, somehow prove you are not a meth maker, and buy it.

If you can find isoproponal and mix it with water, that could would work well also.

The advantage of the acetone is that you can just blow air through the system for a few minutes and remove it all as it evaporates very quickly. Acetone is flammable, so do not use it with the heating system on or hot!

Ideally though, you want to use some sort of pump system and recirculate it through the system a good bit; you need agitation to clean it off well.
