I did not think that it could exist.  I suggested the 1,4-diethyl but-2-ynedioate.  Just my nomenclature was initally wrong.  So we are ok using sodium ethoxide as a suitable base in the isomerization?

I know, my comment about that was directed at camptzak. It appears that the text I quoted was subsequently removed from the original post.
