Substituting the alkane group in pentylbenzene?

(1/1)

redbaron:
I have a theoretical question based on something I read in a very old textbook- if you had a sample of pentylbenzane, and you wanted to substitute the pentane with methylpropane (isobutane), is it possible to do this without destroying the benzene as well? The textbook said that alkane substitutions were possible with a sulfuric acid catalyst- something I had never heard before.

Nobody knows if this sort of reaction would work? Maybe there's some way I can test it myself...
