May anyone have a look at these equations? They deal with an experiment in order to identify which of the four compounds labelled A, B C, D is a Primary Alcohol, an Aldehyde, a Ketone or a Carboxylic Acid.
1) The equation of the reaction when sodium carbonate was poured in the compound B where a dilute carboxylic acid was identified:
2CH3COOH(aq) + Na2CO3(aq) → 2CH3COONa(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)
IS THIS CORRECT ?
2) The equation of the reaction when Fehling's solutions A and B were poured in the compound C where an aldehyde was identified:
RCOH(aq) + 2CuO(aq) + 2OH-(aq) → RCOOH(aq) + Cu2O(s) + H2O(l).
IS THIS CORRECT ?
3)The equation of the reaction when acidified sodium dichromate was poured in the compound A where a primary alcohol was identified:
3CH3CHO(aq) + Na2Cr2O72-(aq) + 8H+(aq) → 3CH3COOH(aq) + 2Cr3+(aq) + 4H2O(l)
IS THIS CORRECT ?
Many thanks!
