Preparation of pH buffer solutions
« on: August 26, 2015, 12:16:01 AM »
how to prepare a 300 ml buffer solution pH of 5 with buffer capacity of adding 100 mL of HCl 0.5 Ma . Suppose that in the laboratory are CH3COOH 6.0 Ma and CH3COONa solid 90%purity.

my attempts:

CH3COONa + HCl = CH3COOH + NaCl

pHi = 5 = pKa + log(CH3COONa/ CH3COOH)

pHf = 4 = pka + log (CH3COONa f / CH3COOH f) ( by the adding of HCl)

C CH3COONa f = C CH3COONa x v - (0.5Ma x 100ml) / vt

C CH3COOH f =  C CH3COOH x v + (0.5Ma x 100ml) / vt
