I have 2 questions:
1. I have to convert 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol to 1,3-dimercapto-2-propanol, using some safer method which should not effect the OH group.
2. How to convert the COOH group to ester. compound to be covert is 1,3-dibromo-2-carboxylic acid.
This is really nice forum where i found lot of solutions n i thank all of.

1. I think a formal double exchange reaction with KHS or NaHS will work
2. Use PBr3 followed by an alcohol.

Thanks, do u have any procedure, i mean i m not a good chemist

Some excess of reagents are needed. Use anhydrous conditions in the reaction with PBr3.
