Supposing i have 2-methylhexane, when drawing the carbon chain, the 2nd link in the chain would be CH, but if i have 2,2-Dimethylhexane (i now have to attach two methyl groups to the 2nd link, so is C by itself now?

The second Carbon atom will have 2 methyl groups attached to it. So as you said, yes the second carbon atom will only be attached to other carbon atoms.
