why is the product precipitated when crude cinnamic acid is poured into a slight excess of concentrated hydrochloric acid solution

yeh i kinda guessed that, would be more helpful if someone could explain it in more detail

I would assume that the reaction of the H+ with the hydroxyl group on the cinnammic acid would form water, and cinnammic acid is only slightly soluble in water (0.4 g/L), causing some of it to precipitate out.

Just my guess though, off the top of my head.
