Cloudy Formaldehyde.....still usable???
« on: July 08, 2008, 09:57:52 PM »
I have been going through our chemical store and have noticed all the formaldehyde is cloudy, due to the labs currently being below 20 degrees C.

My question is does this ruin the formaldehyde or is it still usable in this form??

I have a chemical disposal company coming soon, so it would be a good opportunity to get rid of the stuff if it is stuffed.

Thanks

Ian

At that degree, HCHO polymerised itself to give (-CH2O-)n, it is a gelatinous precipitate in the bottom of the container, to form original HCHO you should warm the solution.
