diacetone alcohol formation

I am perfonrming a chemical reaction involving acetone as a solvent & KOH as reactant & obseving  a formation of diacetone alcohol with my product ,how to avoid formation or minimize diacetone alcohol formation????

Are you talking about an aldol condensation?
