Atomic absorption measurement
« on: December 19, 2007, 09:35:05 AM »
I had always measured samples by atomic absorption using HNO3 as acidifier. Now, I must measure Iron in some samples with high amounts of H2SO4. Someone has exprience measuring by AA with H2SO4?
1 - Some knows if the sulfuric acid will modify the results or if it may cause some problems?
2 - Must I add HNO3 to the samples to avoid some matrix effect?
3 - Must I prepare the standards for calibration curve with H2SO4 instead of HNO3?

Thanks in advance,

Tripton

Just for curiosity, all of you measure in atomic absorption using HNO3 as matrix ??

I don´t understand why i didn´t receive any answer. I´m sorry if my english isn´t so good.

Of course you would have to make a new calibration curve. I don't know the answer to your other questions.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.

Internal and external calibrants are necessary for any proper analytical chemist.
