Calculations Quaestion
« on: September 03, 2013, 10:56:19 PM »
So a typical oil shale sample contains about 80% ash and a typical oil shale sample will yield 10 gallons of crude oil per ton of shale. Assuming a density for crude oil of 7.5 lbs per gallon, how many gallons of crude oil could we get from one ton of this shale assuming we could get 100% yield of oil from the 20% of the mass that is organic matter? Why is the calculated yield so much higher than estimated actual yield?
