Mechanism of addition of methylene
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:37:43 AM »
What would be the mechanism of the following reaction:
Conversion of alkene to cycloalkane in presence of diazomethane?

I tried to propose a mechanism but failed to find a suitable one!

Think about a catalyst and the elimination of nitrogen to give a carbene.
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
