To 1 mL of blood add 1-2 mL of ice cold acetonitrile (dropwise) while mixing.  Continue mixing for a further 1 minute. Centrifuge, and add internal standard.  Transfer organic phase to a clean glass tube and evaporate to approximately 200 uL.   Assuming a pKa of 8.  Dillute with buffer pH 6.  Load on a benzenesulfonic acid SPE column at 1 ml per minute.  Elute with solvent adjustd to pH 11 at 1 ml per minute.
