How do you convert absorbance to percentage transmittance (%T)?
« on: February 19, 2014, 04:36:47 PM »
If a solution has an absorbance of 0.333, how would you find the value of %T?

From this http://teaching.shu.ac.uk/hwb/chemistry/tutorials/molspec/beers1.htm, it looks like the equation is A = 2 - log10 %T

I'm rusty with logs but I'm guessing there's an easy way to plug and chug using a calculator.

I think Transmittance = Poutput/Pinput, whereas A (absorbance) = -log10(Poutput/Pinput) = -log10(Transmittance). Then you just rearrange for Transmittance.
