Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me if I am right or wrong about the product of the following reaction.

1. Toluene and Br2/FeBr3

Would it just be a benzene ring with a bromide coming off?

Thanks

Almost but toluene, isn't just a benzene ring.  What type of director is a methyl group?  Where do you think the Bromide will end up?

Hi,
it's a Friedel Craft's reaction no !!! u have methyl group wghich is O,P-directing group, so u have the possibilty of getting O-bromo as well as p-bromo toluene. Among these which will be the major one?? got it!!! (remember Br is of large size). Have a nice time..
