benzyl alcohol solvent crystallizing fluorenol
« on: September 15, 2008, 06:04:14 PM »
I know that benzyl alcohol (bp 205 C) is not a good solvent to use for crystallization of fluorenol (MP 153-154 C).  However, I don't know why because it should work since they are both alcohol.  I have a theory though:

Since the bp for benzyl is higher than fluorenol, all of it will dissolved, and before benzyl alcohol reach the bp.
