Need help understanding how products are formed
« on: September 25, 2009, 02:22:29 PM »
hello,

First off sorry if this has been covered before,

I am having trouble understanding how products are found from given reactants. How do they know what will pair up with what for any type of chemical equation of the products from the given reactants? Also how are the phases determined in the products?

I have a chemistry lab next week about Types of chemical reactions (precipitation, acid-base and reduction-oxidation).

-example  1: Question - write the balanced equation for the reaction of KOH(aq) with H2SO4(aq).
                    Answer - KOH(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ==> ?

-example 2: Question - Vigorous evolution of a gas is noted when HBr(aq) is added to K2CO3(aq). write the balanced equation for this reaction.
                 Answer - HBr(aq) + K2CO3(aq) ==> ?

I know how to balance equations, its just that how to find the products, i dont know how.

If you guys have any other examples than what i have i would appreciate it, same or different types.

thanks,
Brent

Never mind,

I figured it out. Its amazing when doing things on your own, you actually learn and understand.
