Nitration of cullulose questions
« on: October 01, 2012, 09:24:43 AM »
When sulfuric acid is mixed with nitric acid it frees the nitrating ions which attach to the cellulose to form nitrocellulose. Im try ing to fully understand the reaction so i can mix the acids in the perfect ratio. And know how much cotton to add. There have been two methods so far one that used equal amounts and one the use two times the amount of sulfuric acid. The second creating a more explosive form of nitrocellulose.

I want to beleive that as the nitric acid is consumed the sulfuric acid is regenerated.

I suggest you read the forum rules Quote:
"Discussions on illicit drug synthesis are strictly forbidden as well as discussions on synthesizing explosives. Although intellectual discussions on the chemical physical properties of such explosives and drugs are allowed. Violators will have their topic deleted and banned."
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
