alkene hydroboration reaction
« on: December 02, 2005, 09:45:30 PM »
The RxN is
                   (1)BH3:THF
CH3-C=CH2   ---------------> ?
       |           (2)H2O2/OH-
       CH3CH2

I worked the answer to be CH3CH2CHCH2OH but my book has CH3CH2CHCH2
                                                  |                                                  |
                                                  CH3                                              CH3

I suspect that the book cut off the OH group, but I want to make sure I got the correct answer. If I am wrong can someone tell me why?

It is a kind of hydroxylations and anti-Markovnikov, you are right.
