Title: conversion of total alkalinity to pH

Hi,
I know that pOH is neg log of OH concentration.  But I've always done this using molarity.  how do you do this if you have total alkalinity?  for instance, if the total alkalinity of a solution is 400 ppm...what is the calculated pH?

Total alkalinity is not directly related to pOH.

I agree.  you have carbonate alkalinity in there as well.  So is it something that you can figure out by taking a p alkalinity or 2p-m for an OH alkalinity?  or the addition of several alkalinity concentrations?
