calculating total reaction time
« on: November 11, 2008, 09:09:07 AM »
I am running an aspirin synthesis reaction and I'm trying to calculate the total residence time of my reaction. Running in a tubular flow reactor.

1 Acetic Anhydride + 1 Salicylic Acid --> 1 Acetylsalicylic Acid + 1 Acetic Acid

Stoichiometric Ratios are all 1. It is an overall second order reaction

Rate= k[AA][SalAcid]

The rate constant at the desired temperature (345 K) is .706 L/mol min. Suppose I start with 1M concentration of each reactant and want to run to 95% completion, how do I calculate the total time of the reaction? Is there additional information that I need?
