Enzyme Inhibition Question
« on: December 16, 2013, 09:49:20 PM »
EDIT: Sorry, I actually figured it out. I had my Lineweaver-Burk plot ideas messed up.

Hi,

Would anyone be able to explain to me why the answer is D here and not C?

Thanks

~Cooper :)

Does the problem give the order of binding, meaning does it say whether oxaloacetate binds first or does acetyl CoA bind first?  It seems to me that information is needed.

I think that was part of what they were testing. Anyway, OAA binds first to avoid breaking the thioester from acetyl-CoA prematurely. Therefore, propionyl-CoA would be an uncomp. inhibitor of OAA and a plot of the LWB plot at different would be parallel lines.
