oxidation/reduction
« on: April 05, 2015, 06:17:01 AM »
Hi,

I understand that oxidation refers to losing electrons and reduction as gaining electrons. However, I do not fully comprehend how this property affects a chemical reaction. Does it affect the spontaneity of the reaction? What is the importance of oxidation/reduction? I've tried looking through my textbook but I'm still very confused.

Thanks!!

You already figured out that during an Oxidation Reduction electrons moved from one molecule or atom to another. Does this go spontanioly or not has nothing to do with it.
