Probably a dumb question, but why is benzoic acid soluble in 1M NaOH and not 1M HCl? When adding 6M HCl to the NaOH solution, the benzoic acid ppt. out of solution. Is this because of hydrogen bonding?

I think that I may have answered my own question. The carboxylic acid is converted to a water soluble salt in the NaOH and then reconverted back to its insoluble self with the addition of the HCl.
Is this correct??

Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
