Title: mono-substitution of benzene
Post by: madscientist on October 05, 2005, 11:26:39 PM
Hi all, any guidence with this question would be much appreciated.

Q. states:

Write a mechanism and draw an energy diagram of the reaction , for the
mono-substitution reaction of benzene with an electrophile, NO2+ ion.

Could we consider this reaction as a nitration of benzene resulting in the formation of nitro benzene?

and would it be considered an
SN1 reaction?

cheers
