HELLO everyone. Can someone give me a reason why we use CCL4 solution than in H2O when we want to acquire the IR spectrum of vanillin?thanks in advance.

Does water have a strong absorbance in the IR?

Does vanillin dissolve in water?

The IR solution cells are made from rock salt (at least that's how I remember them. they may have changed now?) and water dissolves salt.
