Di-n-butyl malonate same as Dibutyl malonate?
« on: May 02, 2006, 09:21:39 PM »

Why do they name it with the -n- there? Is it to show that anywhere on the chain is ok?
If you remove it is that the same as saying the -n- is really a -1-?
Id just like to know, cause its not mentioned anywhere in my books, and Id like to know what its all about.

Yes, they're names for the same thing.

The n- just indicates it's a straight chain with no branching.
