Acid reaction with cobalt.
« on: February 20, 2009, 02:09:57 AM »
Hey,
I'm aware of oure cobalt being insoluble to water, but i no it reacts with acid. Basically i have to right up a quick experimental procedure on how it reacts and the outcome, but without actually doing the experiment. Searched online, basically been through everything and i cant find anything to do with cobalt reacting in acids.
If someone has a link or can could just jot down a few lines on what actually happens i would be greatful [:

Recently, in another thread on these boards, someone with a similar problem to yours has quoted an on-line reference.  You may want to check it out:  http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=31326.msg119418#msg119418
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Ok i found this
Code: [Select]
Cobalt metal dissolves slowly in dilute sulfuric acid to form solutions containing the aquated Co(II) ion together with hydrogen gas, H2. In practice, the Co(II) is present as the complex ion [Co(OH2)6]2+.
Any idea on how much of each would of been used? sulfuric acid & cobalt?
thanks,
