Unit cell help?
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:30:31 PM »
I only need help with three questions. Please explain how I should do them because honestly, I do not understand all of this unit cell stuff we're learning in class.
1. What is the maximum radius of an atom that can fit in the center of a simple cubic cell if the radius of the cell atoms is 1.25 angstroms?

2. As a solid, uranium atoms are arranged in a body-centered cubic arrangement. If the radius of a uranium atom is 1.38 angstroms, what is the density of uranium?

3. The density of iron is 7.874 g/cm^3 at 300K. If iron forms a body-centered cubic lattice, what is the radius of an iron atom?

I would rather know how to do each problem than be given the answer. I really just need some assistance! Thank you guys! :)
