While I share the scientific enthusiasm that this was actually observed experimentally, I never really understood while these things seem to be such a huge surprise...
The inertness of the noble gases is just a "rule", it's not a theoretical necessity.

Some 20 years ago I read preprint (though never published) concerning quantum-chemical calculations.
Authors claimed that He2O if existed would be the hardest material on the earth.
Now we may expect K2Ar and K2Ne.
