Title: heterocycles chem
Post by: abazabaa on August 17, 2006, 11:51:58 AM
I am currently in the search for a decent book on the chemistry and synthesis of various heterocycles. I have the various adv. orgo books but they are pretty lacking when it comes to explaining heterocycle chemistry..

Thanks

Tom

A lot of the name reactions books have a pretty hefty section on reactions to make heterocycles, so that's a good place to look.  There is even a book just on named reactions in heterocyclic chemistry.  One book that I have found useful is "The Chemistry of Heterocycles" by Eicher abd Hauptmann.  It has less synthesis, but lots of info on the properties and reactivity of various heterocycles.

Is there one particular heterocycle you are interested in?  There are whole books on the different heterocycles, including some series like "Progress in Heterocyclic Chemistry" which constantly update.

Nitrogen based heterocycles are of the most interest.. purine, indoles, isoindoles, pyroles, also thiophene and benzothiophene..

I will take a look at some of those books on amazon..
