could i please get some help naming these two compounds:
[PdI2(ONO)2(H2O)2]
and
[Mn(Cr2O4)2(H2O)2, I think this one may be dioalatodiaquomanganate (III) BUT I'm not too sure.
Thanks

[Mn(Cr2O4)2(H2O)2], I think this one may be dioalatodiaquomanganate (III) BUT I'm not too sure.
Thanks
Few points to remember :-
1.) First of all, in this complex there are aqua and chromate ligands. We write them in alphabetical order irrespective of the prefix di, tri etc. Therefore first we will write aqua and then chromate.
2.) Also 2 chromate ligands will be written as bischromato because dichromato will refer to Cr2O7 not (Cr2O4)2
3.) The oxidation state of Mn here is IV not III because aqua is a neutral ligand and chromate has -2 charge.
4.) Since this complex is a neutral complex so instead of manganate we will write manganese
So I think its correct name will be diaquabischromatomanganese(IV)
could i please get some help naming these two compounds:
[PdI2(ONO)2(H2O)2]
Please first try it yourself

i wrote the wrong compound for the first one, it should be
[Mn(C2O4)2(H2O)2]-
and i think it may be diaquabisoxalatomanganese

1.) Well, you have written the names of the ligands correctly i.e. aqua and oxalato. But oxalato should be prefixed by di not bis because bis is used for ligands containing di, tri, tetra etc. in their name itself.
2.) Also the anionic complex have the ending -ate for metal.
3.) Here oxidation state of Mn is also not specified.
4.) Since it is a complex ion the word ion should come in the end.
So the name of this complex will be :-
diaquadioxalatomanganate( ) ion
In the parenthesis write the oxidation state of Mn

i've come up with diaquadinitritodiiodopalladium for [PdI2(ONO)2(H2O)2]. It looks a bit ridiculous to me, but thats all i can come up with. Is it right??

Wouldn't you need the oxidation state of the palladium as well?
-
:) Mitch is absolutely correct. You need to write the oxidation state of the palladium .
Also there is another rule that prefixes di , tri , tetra are used without hyphen except when two similar vowels are brought together.
So it's name will be diaquadinitritodi-iodopalladium(IV)
