Title: Lewis formula for ,,X,, compound
Post by: Stephen on August 17, 2009, 10:52:29 AM
Some four-atom particle is very widespreaded in nature, and is made by two type of atoms! It has 30p+, 30no 32e-(from who, 24 are valence electrons!). Write structural formula of this particle!

I have problem with doing this, and only thing I can see is this particle is ion 2-!
How to think in this kind of exercises!  ???

OK, you are correct -  this is an ion with a charge of 2-

Now, out of 32 electrons, 24 are valence electrons (outer shell) - so where are the other 8? They must be in the inner shells...

If we have an ion that has 8 inner shell electrons in total, made up of four atoms, what might that tell you about which period these atoms must come from?

Hint: Think about how many inner shell (non-valence) electrons do the atoms from each period have, and remember there are four atoms in the unknown ion...

What is molar mass of the ion?

What -2 charged ions do you know?

Hey, one question here...

1st shell = 2 e
2nd shell = 8e
3rd shell = 18e
4rd shell = 32e
5th shell = is it 50? since the equation is (2n^2)
6th shell = ...
7th shell = ...

hurm... I wonder if the valence electron is too large, hot to form ion, there are no charge more than 3 right?

There is. Ti4+ for example
