Bromide ions (Br -) are produced in the reaction between bromine (Br2) and a substance X. Which one of the following could X contain ?
Chlorine, Cl2
Iodide, I -
Chloride, Cl -
Iodine, I2
-
What type of reaction is the production of Bromide from Bromine? Reduction or Oxidation?
-
reduction which is gain of electrons so it is chlorine or iodine but i dont know which one is able to react with bromine
-
i think it is chlorine Cl2
-
Reactivity series are usually defined for metals, but they work for halogens as well. You just have to know in which direction.

i do not understand this question.......
i now think it is Chloride, Cl - because it needs to gain electrons
on the other hand Br - ions need to be formed which means electrons could be gained from Chlorine, Cl2 ?
