Title: A shortcut in MOT needed if there is any

Is there any shortcut to determine whether a species is paramagnetic or dimagnetic without actually writing the electronic configuration?

Not really, but when you get used to writing down the electronic configuration, you will discover shortcuts.  ;). So don't worry  :)
