Hi,I need your help regarding laboratory level small preparation of sulfur tetrafluoride.
Method i chosen is SCl2 reacted with NaF giving S2CL2 with SF4 and NaCl.
I calculated enthalpy of reaction and it comes out to be exothermic so seems to be feasible.
*I want to confirm whether this will happen by just mere mixing as former is liquid and latter solid and no where in reference books mentioning of any other extra condition or catalysts.So need help especially from whom who have done it practically.
*if no,do u know any easier or alternative method to prepare SF4 at lab level?

Probably the easiest is to perhaps buy it. However, don't take this the wrong way, but you seem to be asking a lot of questions about very toxic materials, without much evidence of thinking about what you're doing.

SF4 is easiest made in the laboratory from bromine + KF + sulfur [ (2+x)Br2 + 4 KF + S --> SF4 + 4 KBr + xBr2 ]. If left in a reactor (must be metal), the reaction proceeds on its own even at ambient temperature but is faster when heated. A slight excess of KF is advisable (perh.a few percent).
