Title: Quatum mechanics/electron ejection problem
Post by: unleash10 on November 23, 2005, 04:12:47 AM
Question:
Ionization of the H atom from its ground state corresponds to the transition of ni=1 to nf=infinite. Calculate the KE in J and the speed in m/s of the ejected election if the H atom is ionized by light with a frequency of 5 x 10^15 s^-1

Can I use E=hv to calculated the KE? Im not sure what kind of energy the equation gives. Also how do I calculate speed with the information given?

Also I thought the transition of ni=1 to nf=infinite gives off 0 energy?

I think i need a better understanding.
