Title: Is ICl dipole dipole ?
Post by: haloform on June 21, 2012, 04:42:34 AM
Can anybody explain to me why ICl is characterized as a dipole dipole ? I've searched over an old textbook of mine and figured out that since the electronegativity difference between I and Cl is zero (right?) then the dipole moment should not exist.

Check electronegativity tables again!

My mistake, I was looking at the Oxidation numbers :\

There are permanent dipole-permanent dipole interactions
