Title: Reaction of metal in a NaCl solution

what are the chemical reactions that turn Mg solid + NaCl 1 mol /L solution into firstly MgO (Magnesium Oxide) then forms a precipitate [Mg(OH)2] or any other transition metals instead or Mg

Magnesium reacts with steam to produce MgO.

In excess steam, Mg(OH)2 is produced.
