Title: trans effects
Post by: Morphic flip on May 06, 2006, 08:13:11 AM
Am I correct in my examples assuming:

SCN->Br->I-     Br- has a greater trans effect than I-
NO22<Cl-<NH3     Cl- has less trans effect than NH3

you are wrong,

the correct ordering of the ligands is as follows

SCN, I > Br and

NO2 > Cl > NH3

for detailed discussion on trans effect you can refer Inorganic chemistry by James H Huhee. or any other leading inorganic chemistry book.

Sorry, I just meant in my examples as in what I`ve put.
I`m confused in the direction of <
Normally they point the way you have written then them, but I need to know in how I`ve put them.
Thank`s.
