Title: Question about LiAlH4 reduction
Post by: Vosegus on June 16, 2016, 06:52:11 AM
Hello,
I have a carbon chain that in each of the ends I have an aldehyde group. Now I want to reduce only one of them...is it ok to use 1eq of LAH or beforehand I should put protective group on one of the akdehydes group(1eq)?
Thanks!

Are your aldehydes sufficiently different, or identical? If the former then there may be a regioselective way of doing this, with or without protecting groups. If identical, then it may be difficult, but perhaps take a few steps back and see if they can be differentiated earlier.
