Title: How to tackle a chemical problem?

How to tackle questions like this, "addition of dil hcl to B produces an effervescence. The gas produced turns like water milky, but does not affect acidified potassium dichromate solution".

The only real way to tackle them is to learn the chemistry. Can you think of a gas that turns lime water milky, and is produced by effervescence of certain compounds in contact with acids? That's a basic fact you will be expected to know.
