Title: 2-hydroxyanthracene synthesis

Hi. Anyone know how to synthesise 2-hydroxyanthracene from 2-hydroxyanthraquinone? If there’s another alternative besides using 2-hydroxyantheaquinone, that’d be great.

Reduction with Zn/NaOH under nitrogen
or
from 2-aminoanthracene - diazotization-decomposition

Check out:  Arjunan, P.; Berlin, K.D. “An Improved Synthesis of 2-Anthraldehyde”

Organic Preparations and Procedures, 13, 368-371, 1981.

They use Zn, NH4OH ,and CuSO4 - 98% yield in 4 hours.
