Q: A strip of magnesium metal is placed in an aqueous 1.00M copper (II) sulfate solution. Will a spontaneous redox reaction occur? Explain your answer clearly.

You are required to show work to receive help.
If you are having trouble getting started, can you explain in general terms how you determine whether a reaction is spontaneous?

Hi
Im not sure about the kinetic of the reaction but as a matter of thermodynamic this reaction would occur because the E° for copper and magnesium cations are 0.34 and -2.37 so the reaction would occur with the emf of 2.81.
