Title: Is it considered incorrect to name methylcyclopropane 1-methylcyclopropane?
Post by: Traumatic Acid on August 07, 2019, 10:51:06 PM
The title pretty much says it all. I know putting the 1-methyl in front of cyclopropane is somewhat unnecessary, but would it be considered incorrect by IUPAC naming guidelines?
Cheers

The naming is not incorrect, but make no sense, because there is only one Methyl-cyclopropane.  The same if you use H2S1O4 . There is only one sulfuric acid.

methylcyclopropane is correct. when you just got one attached group putting 1 is nonsense.
