Title: Chemical reaction
Post by: Jcooper90 on August 08, 2019, 01:18:27 PM
Is there any chemicals or liquids that will create a non toxic substance that will heat up when mixed together apart from sodium acetate?

Welcome, Jcooper90!

Yes, many such. One reaction used by hikers mixes salty water with iron powder aided by copper. The toxicity or table salt and copper ions is reasonable given the bad taste.

"Create a non-toxic substance", but what about the dangers of the reactants? Concentrated hydrogen peroxide heats a lot when decomposing over MnO2 but peroxide itself is dangerous, and not little.
