Title: Electrolysis
Post by: jessiemariadass21 on September 07, 2019, 09:09:20 AM

Good day.

During electrolysis of molten NaCl , at the anode the electron is lost form a chloride ion. However, while writing the half ionic equation the electron is written at the right hand side and not on the left side.

How to explain to students the way of writing this.

Thank you.

If electrons are lost then they are written on the product side which is the right side of the reaction
If electrons are gained then they are written on the left side as a reactant.
