Title: Equation for synthesis of ICl3

Hello
For a lab, it is stated that potassium chlorate, water, iodine and HCl are used in a reaction to produce ICl3. I need to determine a balanced equation to represent this synthetic reaction but I don't know how to do that with more than two reactants. I know that ICl3 is one of the products but I have no idea what happens to the rest. Can anyone help me to solve this and explain how they got the answer? If possible, could you also give tips or explain how to approach synthesis reactions such as these and how to determine what products come from them?

You have O from KClO3 and H from HCl - what can be formed? - most redox reactions produce this compound
You have K and Cl - what can be formed?
With ICl3 you have all reagents on the right side of the reaction.

How many molecules of water and salt should be formed from 1 molecule of chlorate?
How many atoms of Cl is left?
How many molecules of ICl3 can be formed?
This give you the number of molecules of I2 - and your difficult reaction is balanced!
