Title: Chemical Reactions help
Post by: The_Kentucky_Kid on October 13, 2019, 11:50:29 AM
Greetings friends, I have a test soon and I managed to solve most question of the concept except from the following ones which confuse me a bit! I need some help.

.Nickel metal is prepared by electrolysis of  NiSO4 using an active nickel anode. Which process will take place at the cathode?

a) Ni2+ - 2e → Ni            b) Ni - 2e → Ni2+
c) S2O82-  - 2e → SO42-         d) Ni2+ + 2e → Ni

A piece of iron is to be zinc plated. For the electrochemical kind of corrosion the anode must be the element:
a) iron               b) copper
c) carbon            d) zinc

Which of the following species is oxidized during the operation the electrochemical cell Mg/Mg2+  Cu2+/Cu.
(a) Which metal is the anode and which is the cathode?
(b) Write the equation at the cathode and the anode.

Find out in the textbook or in Wikipedia (anode) what anode is when the battery is discharged and what is during electrolysis. Which problem is related to electrolysis? (only one). During the electrolysis, something is deposited on the electrode - you have two such reactions - one is clearly erroneous.
In cells during normal operation on the anode, more reactive metal is oxidized. Cell reactions are easy to write based on the cell scheme.
